The Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) is Title I of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006. SORNA establishes mandatory minimum standards for sex offender registration and notification programs across the United States, including programs administered by federally recognized tribal jurisdictions.

SORNA was enacted to strengthen the nationwide system of sex offender registration and notification, improve the consistency of registration requirements, and address jurisdictional gaps that could allow individuals subject to registration requirements to avoid detection or compliance.
