The Sault Tribe Election Commission met on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 3 p.m. to review two contests related to nominating petitions: one from Unit 2 Candidate Dean Hyslop Sr. and one from Unit 3 Candidate William J. Perault.

After conducting a second review of the respective sets of nominating petitions, the Election Commission made the following findings via roll call vote:
1.    Unit 2 Candidate Dean Hyslop Sr. needed 40 valid signatures. At the initial review on Friday, April 19, 2024, the Commission found 38 valid signatures. Candidate Hyslop filed a contest to this. After their second review, the Commission found three additional valid signatures, placing Candidate Hyslop at 41 valid signatures. Candidate Hyslop will be placed on the ballot for the 2024 Unit Two Primary Election.
2.    Unit 3 Candidate William J. Perault needed 50 valid signatures. At the initial review on Friday, April 19, 2024, the Commission found 43 valid signatures. Candidate Perault filed a contest to this. After their second review, the Commission found that Candidate Perault would still be short seven or more signatures to reach the 50 valid signature threshold. Candidate Perault will not be placed on the ballot for the 2024 Unit Three Primary Election.
