The  Sault Tribe Cultural Division is seeking volunteers to form four separate committees for local community powwow events. Committee members would be responsible for the general planning of a powwow event within our communities, with guidance and support from the Culture Division. Previous experience planning powwows is not a requirement.

The four powwow events seeking committee members are the annual Sault Ste. Marie Summer Gathering (second weekend in July), the annual Newberry “Honoring Our Waters” Powwow (Saturday after Labor Day) the annual Kinross Veteran’s Powwow (closest Saturday to Nov. 11) and the annual New Year’s Eve Sobriety Powwow (Dec. 31). Committee members will meet regularly and are more than welcome to sit on multiple committees, if desired. Regular meetings will provide the opportunity for committee members to plan their powwow event accordingly.

An initial informational meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 5:30 p.m. at the Niigaanagiizhik Ceremonial Building, 11 Ice Circle Drive in Sault Ste. Marie. All are welcome to attend this meeting.  Community Powwow events are an integral part of our Anishinaabe Bimaadiziiwin (Way of Life) and will continue to grow with increasing community support. We need your help in order to make our powwow events a success.

These committees will aim to plan our community powwow events according to the wishes of our community members.
