The Sault Ste. Marie Chippewa Tribal Court is in the process of sending out jury questionnaires for our 2017 jury selection. The court obtains 300 names for the jury pool every six months receiving information for the pool from a random selection of names and addresses on file with the Enrollment Department. This is why it is very important to update for members to update addresses with the Enrollment Department as residences change. The court understands people attend school in other cities or states from time to time, may work outside the area or enlist in the armed forces. In any of these cases, please contact the court and we will be more than happy to remove people in such situations from the jury pool after correct documentation is provided. Please remember, only the judge can excuse anyone from jury duty, so it is essential the court is contacted if requesting to be excused from jury duty. Those who received a jury letter and have questions or need to be excused should contact the court immediately.
