Our grandmother's dress workshop Camp Begins
The Mary Murray Cultural Camp is proud to present a four-day Anishinaabe strap dress workshop on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, May 4, 5, 6 and 7. All meals provided. Fee for all Anishinaabe tribal members is $100. We do have scholarships available for those in need. This will cover the cost of your strap dress and we will have some optional decorative elements available for purchase.
Our grandmothers wore strap dresses, and it is important to note that these dresses are unique to the Anishinaabe woodland people, they did not come from someplace else; they are ours and tell the story of identity above all else. Our goal is to share that history and also strap dress making knowledge with Anishinaabe women, using materials as close as we can get to those used by our grandmothers, to reclaim and revitalize this important dress for our women. - Siobhan Marks
