Aanii and welcome to the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians website!
Welcome to our website!
Tribal members,
Your ballots have been counted, and 63% of the members who voted in the most recent tribal referendum support the Tribe’s plan to seek federal approval for a casino in downtown Lansing.
I want to thank all members who voted. Whether you voted “yes” or “no,” you exercised your right to participate in the Tribe’s democratic process.
This vote affirmed the Board of Directors’ decision to pursue this opportunity which could bring us funds to restore membership programs that have been cut, to replenish our Self Sufficiency Fund, to pay down our debt, and to bring more services to members.
The next steps in the project are to conclude the Tribe’s purchase of the land where the casino will be built adjacent to theLansingCenterand to submit an application to the U.S. Department of the Interior to take the land into trust for gaming. We will keep everyone updated on the progress of this project through meetings, our blog, Facebook page and website.
If at any time you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office at (800) 793-0660 or locally at 635-6050.
