This statement is from Joe McCoy, chairman of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. The statement offers comment on misleading rumors that are circulating regarding the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians leadership.

“It came to my attention when I arrived at work today that there were rumors circulating that I had stepped down as the Chairman of the Sault Tribe. This is not true.

I caution everyone – employees, tribal members and the media – to take into consideration the source of any information you see or hear regarding the Tribe. Announcements that are made behalf of the Sault Tribe come from official sources including the Chairman’s office, our public relations and communications department and our public relations consulting firm. This information is sent on tribal or casino letterhead, posted on our web page and on our employee intranet site. Information coming from sources other than those listed are not to be deemed credible.

Any questions about rumors or misinformation can be forwarded to Lona Stewart in the Chairman’s office or to Michelle Bouschor, public relations director.”
