Sault Tribe Higher Education is currently offering 58 scholarships for the 2016-2017 academic year. All of the scholarships have various requirements, such as living in a specific unit or majoring in a specific field of study. This ensures that a wide variety of students are eligible for the scholarships. A unique scholarship is the Ken McCoy GED College Scholarship, which requires the recipient to have a GED instead of a High School diploma.

The tribe's most popular scholarship is the Noah T. Leask Family Scholarship—35 $1,000 scholarships open to any undergraduate or graduate student who is attending college full-time at any college and with any major. The Noah T. Leask Family Scholarship is made possible by a private Sault Tribe member who donated the money to fund these scholarships.

Scholarships are awarded based on an essay competition. The submitted scholarships have the identifying information removed and are assigned a number to ensure fair reviews. Each application packet comes with two pages of essay guidelines for formatting the essay and two pages of a sample essay written on the this year's topic to help get the students started. This year's topic is, "How do you perceive the pipelines under the Straits of Mackinac will impact the Anishinaabe?"

In order to apply for any of Sault Tribe Higher Education's Scholarships, students must complete this year's Higher Education Application Packet, complete the scholarship page included in the packet and submit one copy of their essay. Each applicant will be placed into all of the categories for which they are eligible based on the information included in their application packet.
