St. Ignace Health Facility Open House Today

The Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians and Mackinac Straits Hospital (MSH) will hold an open house 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Friday, April 9 to preview a new 80,000 square foot medical facility in St. Ignace. The facility will service area residents and also includes a portion earmarked specifically for tribal services. The facility is scheduled to open Monday, April 19. All are welcome to attend!

Sault Tribe Board of Directors holds regular meeting in Sault Ste. Marie April 6

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - A regular meeting of the Sault Tribe Board of Directors will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at the Kewadin Casino and Convention Center in Sault Ste. Marie beginning at 6 p.m. The meeting will be preceded by “Matters Raised by the Membership” from 5 to 6 p.m.

Resolutions to be considered are: two Partial Waivers; Tribal Homeland Security Grant; 2010 Head Start Grant; 2010 Early Head Start Grant; Victim Assistance Program; Family Violence Prevention/Services; Authorization of Right of Way, Casino Ring Road; Authorization of Right of Way, Shores Access Road; Governmental Amending Flexibility Policy; Casino Amending Flexibility Policy; Amending Ch. 20: Waishkey Bay; Youth Council Bylaws - Young Dreams/Rudyard; Budget Modification - Nutrition Services/Diabetes; and Budget Modification - YEA.

Under new business, the board will consider: Special Needs/Enrollment: Relinquishment, Committee Appointments, Conservation Committee Request, Chief of Police, and Flex Time Policy.

Notice to membership: Contract Health Service move

Contract Health Service, located at the Sault Tribal Health Clinic, 2864 Ashmun, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., will be moving from its present location to the 3rd Floor of the same building location. CHS will occupy three separate offices located along the hallway between Behavioral Health Reception Area and Dental. We will be moving on Thursday, April 1, with no interruption in services to the membership. We will be fully moved to this location to greet members on Monday, April 5, 2010. BIA Secretarial Election Results

Attached are the election results of the BIA Secretarial Election Constitutional Amendment held March 30, 2010. Unofficial results were YES: 76.58%; NO: 23.42%. Any qualified (registered) voter may challenge the election results by filing with the Secretary of the Interior, through the Officer in Charge, the grounds for the challenge together with substantiating evidence. A challenge must be received by the Officer in Charge no later than Friday, April 2, 2010. Please read the attachment for more information.
