AANIIN! BOOZHOO!

Like many indigenous communities, the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians uses the medicine wheel in many ways; for example, symbols are placed on a circular figure to explain basic common logical theory.

A basic understanding of the medicine wheel is not to re-create the medicine wheel, but to make the medicine wheel as simple as possible in conjunction to the community that one is in or at.

The medicine wheel teachings vary from tribe to tribe and from neighbor to neighbor. The importance stressed is respecting all teachings.

The medicine wheel is an efficient tool used to explain different teachings. For example, to teach Western society and indigenous people about basic cultural traditional values.

The Medicine wheel is a helpful guide for those who are working within an indigenous community.

The medicine wheel teaches four symbolic meanings. These meanings are representatives of the same human family, the same brothers and sisters that live and share the same mother earth.

Suggestions on how we can live in harmony while sharing this planet are:

  • The capability to be aware of other cultural customs.
  • The capability to not impose each other's cultural customs on the other.
  • The capability to share ones cultural customs with others.
  • The capability to respect other cultural beliefs.
