DeMawating Development is organized as an economic enterprise under the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. Its purpose is to generate income and employment opportunities consistent with the Tribe's goal of self-sufficiency. DeMawating, located on tribal trust land, is committed to creating a means of wealth at both the individual and tribal level. General Rentals - DeMawating offers month to month lease agreements on 2, 3 and 4 bedroom duplexes and single family units. The average rent rates are $425.00 per month plus utilities. Eligibility criteria are based on ability to pay and rental and employment history. Trust Unit Sales - The sale of units on trust land either by obtaining outside financing of the Trust Unit Sales Contract, which is when the financing is done in house on a contract which is similar to a land contract. HOME Program - The HOME program is a lease to purchase program for income eligible qualified tribal members. There is a set monthly payment made to DeMawating, a portion of which is secured in a reserve account. Once the reserve account has a balance of $3,000.00 (1 year) the homebuyer will be assisted in locating an outside financial institution that will finance the home.
