AdministrationHuman Resource Representative. Representatives assist in the development, interpretation, and enforcement of our personnel policies for Governmental, Casino, and Enterprise operations.The HR Representatives work to maintain team member relations by promoting consistency in the application of our personnel policies. HR Representatives assist in the investigation of any harassment, sexual harassment and discrimination complaints in the workplace. The HR Representatives dealing with team member relations are dedicated to the enhancement of a quality working environment for team members of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians by promoting positive communication among all levels within the workplace. Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS)The Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) Department of Human Resources is responsible for reviewing, designing, and assessing all systems that deal with compiling and reporting of information in the Human Resource Department. The objective is to automate or design a better, more efficient system wherever possible. The overall goal is to make the Human Resource Department as paperless as possible while providing management with the information necessary to make timely decisions.The HRIS Department is responsible for administering the HR Intranet site in to provide information, forms, etc. to make it easier to communicate with outlying sites. This is part of the process to seek out and maintain efficiencies in the Human Resource Department by simplifying processes. The HRIS Department maintains the personnel files and ensures accuracy of team member information and time entry in JD Edwards and Kronos. CompensationThe Compensation component of Human Resources is responsible for job descriptions, organizational charts, market studies, pay plans, establishing/determining appropriate rates of pay for new/existing job titles, and the appraisal process. The Compensation Department consists of a Compensation Managers.The Compensation Department is here to assist existing departments with the organization regarding the above mentioned. Job descriptions within the Sault Tribe are considered the pay and screening documents for those positions. Organizational charts are used to identify who and where the team member reports to. The job descriptions and organizational charts go hand in hand in the day-to-day functions of every team member within the organization. We conduct market studies almost daily so that we are current with the market, or better yet, to be seen as the Employer of Choice by setting the market. Pay plans are established in determining wages for new positions identified within the organization. Appraisals are now used throughout the year by supervisors to track team member strengths and weaknesses. The Sault Tribe adopted a Pay for Performance plan and team members are now being recognized for their outstanding contributions based on funding. TrainingThe Sault Tribe Center of Professional Development exists to serve all team members and tribal members of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians. Why, you may ask, is it necessary to provide training? Our responsibility to the organization is to enhance performance and produce positive change in our rapidly changing, diverse workplace. Our objectives are to provide up-to-date information for reaching each team member's personal, departmental and organizational goals efficiently. Our facilities, which consist of two conference rooms and a 12 unit computer lab, are located at 531 Ashmun Street at the Sault Ste. Marie Tribal Administration building. We also train on-site to our outlying areas in the seven county districts where we offer community services and gaming. St. Ignace OfficeThe St. Ignace Office of Human Resources is a satellite office to service the various governmental, casino and enterprise operations in the St. Ignace area. Our office is located on the second floor of the Kewadin Shores Casino, 3039 Mackinaw Trail. We provide the following services:
Workforce Investment Act (WIA)On the Job Training (OJT) provides opportunities for employers and customers. Participants learn job skills while working and the employer is reimbursed 50% of the participants' wages. Work Experience is a short term, temporary work assignment for students. The purpose is to provide participants with basic transferable work skills. Students may be awarded academic credit through the school co-op program. Summer Youth Employment Program is an income based work experience designed to enhance employability through the development of good work habits and basic work skills. Tribal Summer Youth Employment Program is not income based. This program is tribally funded. Senior Employment Program provides for a maximum of 20 hours of employment to our Elders.
