SERVICES: The Advocacy Resource Center is a direct service program that provides assistance to victims of crime.  Staff of the Advocacy Resource Center is dedicated to providing a wide variety of services to all victims of crime, with a special focus on women and children who are in abusive relationships.
Eligibility Criteria:

Member of Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians
Live within the seven county service area (Mackinac, Chippewa, Luce, Alger, Schoolcraft, Delta, and Marquette).
Non-Native victims of crime occurring on Reservation land.
A victim of crime.

If you do not meet eligibility criteria, Advocacy Resource Center staff will assist with referrals to appropriate agencies.

Fee: There are no client fees for services provided by the Advocacy Resource Center.

Advocacy for victims of crime

The Advocacy Resource Center has Advocate Workers to provide assistance for victim of crimes to manage their trauma, and resolution of victimization.

Criminal Justice Support

Advocates are available for emotional support during court proceedings.  Advocates also have information on how the court system works and the status of your case.

Emergency Legal Advocacy

Legal advocacy services for victims of crime to assist in completing paperwork such as a Personal Protection Order (PPO).

Emergency Financial Assistance

Limited funds are available to ensure the safety of victims of crime.

Legal Aid Services

A special service for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and/or stalking to assist with court proceedings and completing paperwork for a Personal Protection Order (PPO).

Crime Victim Compensation

Assistance in filing an application with this state program that assists victims of crime with medical and counseling expenses, lost wages, etc.

Residential Shelter Service

For women and children victims of domestic violence in need of a safe place to stay, also known as the “Lodge of Bravery”.

Transportation

A service provided for ARC clients to get to medical/counseling appointments & court hearings.

Women’s Talking Circle

Special meetings or support group for women in or leaving an abusive relationship.

Referrals are available and other services may be available based on individual need.
