Professionals’ summit on addiction at LSSU

Supporting the Addict, Securing the Future: Addiction through the Life Cycle 2016, a 2016 U.P. fall summit for medical personnel, social workers, educators and therapists takes place at Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., on Oct. 27‑28.

Keynote speakers are Ira Chasnoff, M.D., and pediatrician, Dr. Mark Sloane. Dr. Chasnoff is a leading researcher in the field of child development and the effects of maternal substance use on infants and children. Dr. Sloane is a board certified pediatrician and has clinical experience in the medication management of more than 1,200 traumatized, drug or alcohol exposed children and adolescents. Also speaking is George M. Nidiffer, M.D., pediatric medicine specialist in Marquette, Mich.

Topics include neo-natal FAS/drug exposed, addiction and trauma, pregnancy and addiction and treatment for children and families.

Registration is open and costs are $99 for the early bird rate and $120 full rate. Medical personnel, social workers, educators and therapists are especially invited to attend.

Registration is limited. Payment must be received by Oct. 17 to guarantee reservations. No refunds provided without written cancellations received by Oct. 21.
