Nokomis Ogitchida Line 5 Information Rally

WHO: Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, led by women members and Board members of the Tribe who proposed this rally to protect the waters of the Great Lakes. All community members are welcome to join us!

WHAT: Rally to Protect the Great Lakes from Enbridge’s Line 5 pipelines, which lay at the bottom of the Straits of Mackinac just west of the Mackinac Bridge. About 23 million gallons of oil flow through the twin, 20-inch pipelines daily.

WHERE: St. Ignace Welcome Center, just north of the tollbooths at the Upper Peninsula end of the Mackinac Bridge

WHEN: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday, Sept. 26. A Women’s Water Ceremony will be conducted at 8:30 a.m.

A rupture of the Line 5 oil pipelines would be a worldwide catastrophe. Anishinaabe women’s voices proposed and led the efforts to organize this peaceful rally in opposition to the continued use of the pipelines. There will be a water ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Speakers will begin at 10 a.m., a public statement will be made at 1 p.m. and Anishinaabe youth will speak at 5 p.m.
